I adore photographing families over the years!! Capturing the same family at different milestones throughout their life is one of my favorite joys. I have photographed this family in Hawaii for the past handful of years, and since our first photo shoot, their family has grown by one baby now turned toddler.
I collaborate with my clients when deciding a photo shoot location, and this client was hoping to have either woodsy or jungle vibes as well as a classic Hawaii beach scene. Bellows Beach, located on the windward side of Oahu has both a wooded area as well as some of the bluest water around the island. We decided to capitalize on the whimsical woodsy landscape that fills in the background of Bellows Beach and divided our time between each scene.
I love to tell kids at photo shoots that we’re on an adventure, and it’s important to have a change of scenery every once in awhile throughout the session to keep the wonder alive. We found a patch of wildflowers, played games, and I helped the kids take ownership of the photo shoot. Mom and dad were entirely on board and we had a blast. During the beach portion of our time together we found a sand crab, climbed rocks, splashed in the water, and created many moments filled with connection and laughter.
As you’ll see, we found so many delightful treasures in the woods and on the beach and it was truly a wonderful morning spent on the windward side.

The wooded area at Bellows Beach provides a whimsical, boho style backdrop while the beach offers turquoise waters, white sand, rock formations, and epic Hawaiian views. I love a family photo shoot that captures the beauty of Hawaii while showcasing a family’s story. I love the way the light filters through the trees in the woods and the way the bright sun highlights the brilliant colors of the ocean. This family is full of laughter and joy and our session together captures the beautiful personalities of each family member.
